Serena & Lily Sale Picks

Serena and Lily is definitely a splurge place for me when it comes to home decor. But I think they have some timeless pieces that are worth the investment if you fall in love and definitely, definitely shop on sale. Their friends and family event makes it easy because EVERYTHING is 20% off using the code GUESTPREP. Here are a couple of my favorite picks by category.

Target Fun Run

Had me some quick and dirty fun at Target today. I was already wearing this hat because I hadn’t washed my hair in about three days….. so guess what, I found things that could be worn with a…… black hat. uhhhh. Luckily everything was very fall-esq so it wasn’t very hard. And if this isn’t a tribute to the versatility of this hat, I don’t know what is. That’s why I own in two colors. Okay, here we go

College Savings: Pearls and Pitfalls

While I’m certain that all three of my children will be gifted athletes and fall in the 1% of kids that earn full athletic scholarships to the school of their choice, I’m also thinking I may need a back up plan. You know, just in case. I don’t know what’s more troubling, the fact that kids with 4.6 GPA’s can’t get into colleges or that they are being saddled with massive amounts of debt once they do. According to Forbes, the cost of tuition is increasing at 8 times the rate of wages. I was not a math major, but I don’ think that pencils out well. It’s no wonder that as a nation, we are now facing 1.4 billion in student loan debt.. Yikes. I am also not a financial expert. I am mom with three little ones that we hope will attend college one day. This makes me invested. Pun intended. Unless you are uber wealthy or have a college-paying fairy up your sleeve, most people will need the time value of money to work it’s compound-interest-magic in order to keep up. Also know as: saving.

End of Hallway Design Dilemma

The end of our hallway was fine. But boring. It has a basic lower cabinet and was just kinda blahhhhh. It served as a place where I put the kids laundry. So I decided to just swap, add and remove a couple things to make it look a wee bit more finished. And I also had one major issue…

Amazon Lately

Let me start by saying this first blouse is not even from Amazon. That’s how credible of a blogger I am. Somewhere along the road, I had mentally decided it was from Amazon. In reality, it came from one of those Instagram ads, WHICH, in my mind, means ‘a complete roll of the dice’. This is what I associate with Amazon fashion buys. Does that brain connection (or lack thereof) make sense to anyone? Uhhhhhhhh

Labor Day Sales: Who, What, Where

Labor Day weekend is here and sales are happening everywhere. If you are like me, you find it all overwhelming. Half of me wants nothing to do with it. The other half doesn’t want to miss out on something if there happens to be a killer deal. It’s sale FOMS. In case you are catering to the latter, I put together a list of some of the major sales so you could see at a glance. Sometimes it’s nice to take a lap around the room before you commit to a location. (please comment below if you got that reference) :)

Potty Training: Round Three

Potty training can be a real shit show. Literally and figuratively. It’s messy and stressful for both the trainers and the trainees. In fact, I potty trained the twins (now 8) over a long weekend when my husband was out of town because I knew we’d end up bickering ourselves and I wanted to make the environment as “stress free” as possible. If that doesn’t happen in your house, then having extra help is great (and please send your marriage tips to me STAT). My control-freak ways operate better solo in these types of situations. Knowing that was my first win. LOL.

H&M Fall Finds

Fall is here…. according to retailers. It’s actually summer and in the mid-80’s here, but lets not split hairs. H&M’s storefront was filled with fall colors of camels, coppers, rusts, and browns. It’s basically a pumpkin spice latte of clothes. And I’m not mad about it. I wanted to share a couple of my favs.

Leopard Round Up for $30 and Under

It’s hard to look anywhere these days and not see leopard (or some sort of animal print) on every shirt, belt, bag or blanket. Snake skin is also slithering onto the scene. Pun intended. Because these trends are very right NOW, I don’t love spending too much money on these things. Leopard prints have come in and out of style since fashion was even a thing. If you see something that is a classic, it’s worth investing a little more for quality. IMO. For everything else, the styles change too much to justify a major spend. That being said, I rounded up a few of my favorite affordable animal print finds from this season. All these items are under $25. Score.

At-Home Manicures That Last

Even if I had the time and was willing to pay the money to get salon manicure on the regular, they NEVER last. Like, I don’t even make it out of the parking lot. If I do get the keys and credit card out without smudging them, the manicure is gone within 24 hours. Powders and gels are the most durable obviously, but they require a commitment that I don’t have in me in this season in my life. Maybe someday. The problem is that I LOVE a pretty set of nails.

Organize Your Bling

I recently went on a jewelry organization over-haul and thought I’d share some of my favorite contraptions that helped me do the job. I have learned that if things are hidden and perfectly stored away, I will never wear them. Out of sight, out of mind. The purists would argue that nice jewelry should be covered to protect it. Good news, bad news here, I don’t own anything that valuable, so it makes things easier. Now, if it’s going to be on display, it needs to be pretty and functional. Two things that don’t always go hand in hand.

Target Run Gone Wild

We all know the drill. You need detergent and all of sudden in you’re trying on workout clothes and shoving Haribo gummy bears down your throat with a red cart full off ridiculously cute stuff you never knew you needed. Had one of dem days at Target this week. It all started in the Wild Fable section so I wanted to share some of my finds and a couple more….when I “got lost”..
