Operation Pantry Organization

I wish I had one of those walk-in-Chrissy-Tiegen-style pantries. Ya know, the kind you could host a slumber party in? Or at least hide from my children in? Maybe some day. Also maybe not. For now, we have a small cabinet-style pantry that gets really tight with a party of five. It does have nice pull-outs which really helps for access. Even so, every inch counts. I found myself trying to balance food on top of each other, praying it would stay. I even slammed the doors shut fast on occasion knowing the bag of chips would likely topple out on the next unsuspecting snacker. That’s pantry shame. I could do better. I realized we were not using the space well. Specifically, we weren’t using the height well. A story in photos….

The SWAP OUT

Several months ago we decided to swap the food from our lower pull-out in the pantry with tupperware/food storage containers that were in our corner lazy suzan cabinet. Here was the logic: Prioritization. Our lazy suzan stored our tupperware/glass storage containers which we use daily. And it sucks. It has a very small opening and makes things so difficult see and access. I swear way more than usual when retrieving things from my lazy suzan. The bottom pull-out in our pantry has way better access and stored our extras (not stuff we used daily), like unopened condiments and sauces. And since any pullout is better than our corner lazy suzan, we decided to swap out the goods. It’s been far more functional. I swear a little less and that’s good for everyone. This whole principle of ‘organization based on prioritization’ is a logic that applies to all area of the house. Small shift, BIG change.
